CAT 2009 online or not

here is what some of the national daily states about it,i am pasting here one of these excerpt, it read"

The CAT this year too may remain a paper-pencil test. Last December, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) had floated a tender and shortlisted four companies to conduct CAT 2009 online. These companies include ETS Prometric, Pearson VUE, Eduquity Career Technologies and Mumbai-based Attest, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aptech.

The IIMs now say the probability of CAT going online this year is low, given the logistics involved. “We don’t know yet if CAT would go online. We are in the process of finalising the vendors. In the next few weeks, we will take a call if we will go online this year or not,” Pankaj Chandra, director, IIM Bangalore, told Business Standard.

“To go online or not would be decided in April. We still would have eight months, which hopefully will be enough for us. If not, we will go for the usual paper-pencil test, where we are familiar with the entire logistics of printing, advertising and hiring of rental places for writing the test,” he added.

CAT online
would mean taking the test on a computer which will serve questions from a local server. The IIMs have said they will need a good number of computer terminals for students to take the examination. “A whole lot of other details need to be put in place which needs time,” said a senior faculty member from one of the IIMs, who did not wish to be identified.

An executive from a prominent MBA preparatory institute concurred: “We are talking about around 300,000 students taking the exam in one day. Taking an examination like CAT online would require good work from IIMs in terms of infrastructure and facilities which will not happen in a few months’ time.”

A beautiful experience

it must be counted as one of my dream experience.one of my friend received call from his prof. about our willingness to join the seminar of a reputed developmental economist" jean dreze" and his aide "reetika khare".we hurriedly agreed and rushed toward patna youth hostel where,it was organised. Before moving ahead in sharing details of my experience,i must share with you the profile this prof. "this" IIT educated guy left the high paying lucrative job for the social service in his native state.beside teaching us ,he is involved in numerous activities.he is working with RTI ,flood relief NGO,NREGS .....and many more others.this seminar was about the implementation of NREGS.Given the fair measure of success the ongoing NREGS has achieved,it must be credited to "jean dreze",one of the vocal supporter of this scheme.he has conducted several social audit on the implementation of this scheme.NREGS is basically provided in the rural areas.while speaking in the seminar,he stressed about replicating the NREGS in the urban areas also.the demographic and economic difference that exist b/w rural and urban india call for a modification of NREGS pattern in devising an urbn employment gurantee scheme.he also told that an urban public EGS should improve upon the current prototype, which hinges n creating jobs largely through public works.he aws quite vocal about the government involvement in the socio-economic development by stating thatgovernment should adress and create environment necessary for the rural and urban economic development at the same par.he also talked about the contradiction b/w the scheme such as NREGS and post liberalisation(which started in 1990s),but maintained that with strong political will,it can be successfully implemented.we also shared some of our knowlrdge with him, when our prof. introduced us to him.it was truly a very beautiful experience which lasted for about two hours.
